Customer: Tropic
Brand guardrails that let a small team move fast
Tropic’s marketing team was six people without a designer. They were shipping constantly, which was the right instinct — but every asset got rebuilt from scratch, and every author made slightly different calls. Spacing drifted. Colors landed close, but not quite.
They didn’t need a designer on every post. They needed guardrails.

My approach
I built a self-service system inside Canva, designed around how the team actually works:
- Extended the existing brand with new textures and backgrounds — more range to keep things interesting, without drifting off course
- Built templates around real use cases, working with the team so each one was genuinely self-serve — report templates included everything needed to ship a report, product templates everything needed for product
- Bundled text boxes and type styles for clean copy-paste, but left elements unlocked — so a template works whether you’re pasting and going or swapping colors
- Stocked a full asset library of textures, colors, logos, and imagery, so even from-scratch builds start on brand
- Recorded Loom walkthroughs covering both Canva itself and the templates specifically, so onboarding didn’t depend on me
The goal wasn’t to control the output. It was to make the on-brand choice the easiest one.

The outcome
Full coverage
70+ template variations across 22 asset types
One voice
Six authors producing work that reads as one brand
Faster shipping
Materials go out without waiting on a design queue
Any skill level
Usable whether you’re a Canva native or a first-timer
Why it matters
The brands that scale well aren’t the ones where one person approves every decision. They’re the ones with systems clear enough that the team can move on its own without losing the thread.
Clear constraints. Confident execution. No bottleneck.

Bringing complex data to life and into the spotlight
Sonatype had powerful insights buried in a gated PDF. I transformed the report into a visual experience that boosted engagement and reach.

Clarifying a tool with a new brand and UX
The platform was solid. The brand? Not so much. I overhauled the identity and Help Center to make it feel modern and reliable.
